Professor Brian John DUGGAN is Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at The University of Hong Kong. Professor Duggan works on linking deformation microstructure and texture formation in the rolling and recrystallisation of metallic alloys. He has recently provided a phenomenological framework for the development of rolling microstructure. From consideration of microstructural instabilities he explained the texture transition and through the theory of orientation splitting has given a self consistent model for rolling texture formation in cubic metals. Using these theories he has provided an explanation of annealing phenomena and is the originator of the microgrowth selection theory. He retired from HKU in 2011.
