Kam Hong Shum 岑錦康

  • Scholarship in 1992 at University of Cambridge

Dr Shum received his PhD in Computer Science from the Computer Laboratory of the University of Cambridge in 1996 with the support of the Croucher Foundation of Hong Kong. Since then, he has been working in academia and the IT industry. He is a former faculty member of the National University of Singapore and Singapore Management University. His experience in the industry includes CTO and Technical Director positions in IT companies, specializing in security, AI/ML, Central Bank Digital Currency and privacy-preserving technologies. He had designed and implemented a wide variety of e-payment and e-business solutions for banks, international payment institutions and commercial organizations involving the innovative use of cryptosystems and fintech.  

In Edutech research, he collaborates with the Faculty of Education and Department of Computer Science, University of Hong Kong. He received the degree of Doctor of Education from the same university in 2020, specializing in data analytics in learning technologies.

As for fintech research, he has been applying privacy-preserving technologies to leverage alternative data for credit scoring and risk assessment. He is the main author of the HKMA white paper titled "Alternative credit scoring of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises".
