Leung Suet-yi

  • Senior Medical Research Fellowship in 2007 at University of Hong Kong

Professor LEUNG Suet-yi is Associate Dean (Research) of Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine and Chair of Gastrointestinal Cancer Genetics and Genomics at The University of Hong Kong. Professor Leung is known for her expertise in molecular genetics and genomics of gastrointestinal cancer. Her group has discovered novel genes that are mutated or epigenetically silenced in sporadic gastrointestinal cancers, which may help development of new anti-cancer therapeutics. Professor Leung has also found new epigenetic and genetic mechanisms for hereditary colon cancer that improve the genetic diagnosis strategies for at risk families.

Currently

1. Uncovering the genetic basis of sporadic and hereditary gastrointestinal tract cancers using next-generating sequencing technology and integrative genomics approach.

2. Identification of prognostic biomakers that can be applicable in clinical practice using genomics technology.

3. Deciphering the interplay between genetic and epigenetic mechanisms in tumour suppressor gene silencing in carcinogenesis.
