Vincent Cheng 鄭元山

  • Scholarship in 2000 at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

Vincent received his B.Sc. and M.Phil. in Biochemistry from HKUST. One of the few Croucher Scholarship recipients who did not pursue a PhD, he chose to become a secondary school teacher, an aspiration since childhood, after graduation in 2001. It was a tough decision, but with no regret. He was not fed up with scientific research, but he realized his role in contributing to adolescent education. With the visionary goal in mind, he did not stop equipping himself as an education frontier, and obtained his M.A. (Student Activities), M.Soc.Sc. (General Education), M.A. (Psychology) and M.Ed. (Sports Science & Physical Education) from CUHK.

The academic context in secondary school is not as challenging as university, but the diversity and uncertainty of the interactive environment with today's adolescents are nonetheless demanding. It is his wish to be one of the social figures that make an impact on the younger generations at their critical stage of character-building and maturity development. Being able to share his knowledge, life experiences and values with today's youth does not only keep him young-at-heart, but the laughter and satisfaction are also key in keeping his momentum in school education. He dreams of nurturing and inspiring more future Croucher scholars in the future, who are capable of continuing his unfulfilled duty of contributing to the swift development of science and technology.
