  • Scholarship in 2020 at University College London

Jay Yan received his MEng in chemical engineering from University College London (UCL) in 2019 where he developed a strong interest in electrochemical energy storage technologies.

During his Masters, he worked on various electrochemistry and electrochemical devices related researches with a focus on lithium sulphur battery cathode material under the Material and Catalysis Lab (MCL), then later zinc ion battery research under the in City University of Hong Kong as a research assistant.

He is currently pursuing a PhD in chemical engineering at UCL with a focus in electrocatalysis of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) cathode. Specifically, he studies the electrochemical behaviours of platinum based alloy nano-catalysts using in situ and in operando synchrotron radiation characterisations, e.g. X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD), under PEMFC operating conditions.
