Professor YUEN Kwok Yung is the Henry Fok Professor in Infectious Diseases at the Department of Microbiology of The University of Hong Kong and the Director of State Key Laboratory of Emerging Infectious Diseases. He is also Fellow of Royal Colleges of Physicians, Surgeons and Pathologists of the United Kingdom. His field of research is “novel microbes in emerging infectious diseases.” He made his mark by discovering from patients and animals new viruses such as the SARS Coronaviruses and the Human Coronavirus HKU1, and bacteria such as Laribacter hongkongensis. “ He is one of the top 1% researchers in the world, as ranked by the Essential Science Indicator (ISI web) has over 500 publications with more than 15,000 citations.
