Dr Cheung is an auditory cognitive neuroscientist and will begin his tenure as a Croucher Fellow at the Institute of Information Science, Academia Sinica in July 2021. His current research focus combines deep learning and music information retrieval to advance signal reconstruction techniques.
Previously, he was awarded a Croucher Scholarship for doctoral studies at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig, Germany. There, he investigated the neural and cognitive mechanisms of musical pleasure, and his research was featured by international media in over 12 languages and on German national television.
He completed his undergraduate studies in mathematics at the University of Warwick, UK before pursuing a masters in computational neuroscience at the Technical University of Berlin, Germany.
