Dorothy Cheng 鄭慧中

  • Scholarship in 2021 at European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) Heidelberg
As of 2021, Dorothy is a PhD Student at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg, Germany. She studies the molecular mechanisms governing cell surface mechanobiology - how cells sense and respond to physical forces - using biophysical tools and in situ structural biology.

After completing high school in Hong Kong, Dorothy studied Cell and Molecular Biology at The Chinese University of Hong Kong for a year, after which she transferred to Reed College in Portland, Oregon USA to complete her Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, performing her thesis in the lab of Arthur Glasfeld. During her bachelors, she also carried out summer internships at the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology (group of Andreas Diepold) and The Rockefeller University (group of Shixin Liu). She transitioned to her current PhD position after graduating from Reed College.
