- Innovation Award in 2017 at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
Dr Danny Chi Yeu Leung received his BSc. in human genetics from University College London and MSc. in human molecular genetics from Imperial College London. He then conducted his PhD research under the supervision of Prof. Matthew Lorincz in the Department of Medical Genetics, University of British Columbia. He went on to carry out his postdoctoral fellowship research under the supervision of Prof Bing Ren at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research. He was also a fellow of the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine. Dr Leung is currently an associate professor in the Division of Life Science at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He serves as the lead investigator of the Hong Kong Epigenome Project and the director of the HKUST Center for Epigenomics Research.
Dr Leung’s current research focuses on understanding the epigenetic control of non-coding DNA sequences in cancer. Using melanoma cells as a model system, Dr Leung’s team employs next-generation sequencing based technologies to study cancer specific mechanisms of regulating non-coding parts of the human genome.
