Ko Wai San Fanny 古惠珊

Dr Ko is a specialist respiratory consultant physician in the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics at Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong. She is also the Honorary Clinical Associate Professor of the Faculty of Medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Dr Ko graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. After graduation, she completed full training in internal and respiratory medicine at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong. With the support of the Croucher Foundation Scholarship and the Hong Kong Lung Foundation Fellowship, she also completed a year of research training at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research at the University of Sydney in Australia. Dr Ko’s main research interest is in asthma and COPD. She has published more than 180 papers in peer-reviewed journals, and she obtained her MD degree in 2007 based on her research on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She was elected as the Fellow of the European Respiratory Society in 2022.

Dr Ko is currently a member of the Scientific Committee of the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA), Chairman of Hong Kong Lung Foundation and Medical Advisor of the Hong Kong Asthma Society. In addition, she is a Past President of the Hong Kong Thoracic Society and past Vice-President of the Hong Kong Institute of Allergy.

She has been the Senior Editor of Respirology since 2013. In addition, she is currently the Associate Editor of European Respiratory Review, Journal of the COPD Foundation and International Journal of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease. She is also the Editorial Board Member of European Respiratory Journal, American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: in Practice and the International Advisory Board Member of Lancet Respiratory Medicine.
