  • Croucher Cambridge International Scholarship in 2010 at University of Cambridge

Wilma obtained her B.A. (Hons.) in Natural Sciences (Biological) from the University of Cambridge in June 2010. She is currently undertaking a Ph.D. at the Department of Pharmacology (Cambridge) under the supervision of Dr. Hendrik van Veen.

In her spare time, Wilma enjoys dancing, travelling, playing the piano and baking.

Currently

Wilma's current research focuses on the identification of drug-binding surfaces in ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters from bacteria. With the knowledge gained from her studies, future modification of these transporters and those implicated in cancers and pathogenic bacteria, as well as the design of therapeutically-active drugs would become possible. By that time, we will be a step closer to providing a cure for cancer and other human ABC transporter-related diseases and also infections caused by pathogenic microorganisms.
