- Scholarship in 1989 at the University of Sussex
Shiu Yin Yuen (Kelvin) was born in Hong Kong. He graduated from the Higher Diploma in Electronic Engineering from The Hong Kong Polytechnic (now The Hong Kong Polytechnic University) with Credit in 1984, and obtained the Associateship in Electronic Engineering, with Credit, one year later. He became the first person to obtain the MPhil Degree from the Polytechnic in November, 1988, with a dissertation on “Computer Perception of Hidden Line”. During this time, he was also a Visiting Lecturer of the department. He obtained the Doctorial degree (DPhil) from the School of Cognitive and Computing Sciences (now Department of Informatics), University of Sussex, UK in January, 1992. His dissertation title is “Shape from Contour and Segmentation Using Symmetries”. He joined City University in 1992 as a Lecturer, and is now an Associate Professor.
He enjoys playing badminton and violin. He is a Christian.
